Message from Samantha Headley: May 10, 2024

Dear Morse School Students and Families,

It was a wonderful week at Morse School! Thank you to Friends of Morse and to our families for showering our educators with love and appreciation this week! We've appreciated the massages, the breakfast, the Drum Call dance workshop, the special lunch, and all the cards and gifts!

Parent & Caregiver Workshop

We hope you can join us for our Parent & Caregiver Workshop on May 15th. You will get to engage with other caregivers and learn about various strategies and instruction around literacy, math, and social emotional learning. Please RSVP here by the end of the day today.

Placement Input for SY 24-25

Over the coming weeks, our classroom teachers, specialists, counselors and special educators will work together to develop preliminary class lists for the 2024-2025 academic year. Our process is designed to create positive and balanced classrooms that will foster each child’s social and academic growth. We will take many factors into consideration, including the individual strengths and needs of each child and school demographics. The starting point for our placement process is to consider these factors for all of the children at a particular grade level, and to build individual class lists that take into account the different personalities and learning styles represented in the cohort. With such large and complex student cohorts - and with only two homeroom teachers at each grade level - we cannot accept requests for individual teachers. Please complete this form to support our planning by Wednesday, May 15th.

Morse School Council

While some schools are holding elections in the coming weeks for their School Council, we currently have no vacant seats open for election. We are so happy that we will have returning members continue in their role as advisors for next year. Please remember that the School Council meetings are public and even if you are not a School Council member, you are encouraged to join us for our monthly meetings. Our next meeting is on May 16th and we will discuss how the additional minutes will be used in the school day. In addition, we will brainstorm ways to communicate the new start/end times and how to support families in getting to school on time. Please join us with this link from 6:30-7:30PM.

Drum Call - Staff Edition

As part of Educator Appreciation Week, we were fortunate to have Joh from the Dance Complex lead us in a West African welcome dance. It was so much fun dancing with our colleagues and learning something new together! Thank you to Aisha Jafri for all the work she's done to coordinate this for our staff and our families this year. Great news! There will be Drum Call dancing at the Spring Fair!
