From the School Nurse

Policies have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of children needing medicine during the school day.

  • Most medication must be kept locked in the nurses office with very few exceptions.
  • In the health office, we have a supply of the most commonly used over the counter medications such as Tylenol and Advil. There is no need to send these kinds of medication to school in the backpacks.
  • Other medications should be delivered to the school nurse in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container by a parent or a responsible adult delegated by you. Please ask your pharmacist for separate bottles for school and home when prescriptions must be split.

Consent Forms

For prescription medications:

  • The Nurse needs a signed doctor’s order AND a signed parent consent.

For over the counter medication:

  • Needs only signed parent consent.
  • The exception to this rule is short-term antibiotics. For these medications, we need only the parents signed consent and as always the medication must be in a prescription-labeled bottle.
  • Your prescriber may fax his/her order directly to the nurse at 617.349.6576

Please feel free to call with any of your health questions or concerns at 617.349.4003, 617.349.6575 x101 or if you’re in the building stop by the health office.
