Message from Samantha Headley: March 22, 2024

Dear Morse School Students and Families,

This week we welcomed spring, stretched our brains and lived the Morse Code. Check out what's been happening at Morse!

Professional Development Through Learning Walks

We are committed to learning and growing together at Morse. One of the ways we do this is by observing each other's classroom to look for high leverage practices, curriculum, student engagement and community.  In the past few weeks school based and district level educators have conducted Social-Emotional, Literacy, and Math Learning walks where teams visit classrooms to observe, then debrief and discuss next steps for our learning. We share feedback with staff and ways in which we can align our vision and goals for instruction.

4th and 5th Grade After School Clubs

Ms. Allison will be sharing selections for session 5 of after school clubs. We had many students interested and tried to give each child one of their choices. We are still hoping to have parent/caregiver co-facilitators for this round. If one of the club groups catches your eye and you'd like to join the teacher in leading the group, please email myself or Kristin Allison ASAP.

MCAS

During last night's School Council meeting, Mary Gallant presented this slide deck. Although we work with MCAS data as one of many ways to inform instruction and monitor progress, that is just us as adults. We wanted to share with you what it looks like from the student facing side of things. If you have any questions about the assessment or know that your child will be absent on their testing day, please reach out to me ASAP so that we can make alternate arrangements.

Assistant Principal Hiring Process

We will be interviewing for the Assistant Principal position at Morse on Tuesday, April 9th from 2-6PM. If you are interested in joining the interview team for the AP position, please complete this short Google Form.

Growing our Library

Thanks to the Equity Collaborative grant and a grant from the Chinese American Association of Cambridge, we have been able to grow our library with more books that represent our Middle Eastern, North African, and Asian American Pacific Islander authors, illustrators, and characters.  We are proud of our collection of books and the way that they offer windows to other cultures and mirrors to help our students feel represented. Thank you to Sarah Pennell for always being on the search for books that bring joy to reading.

Drum Call

TODAY, March 22nd at 5:30PM is the second Drum Call workshop. Walk-in registration is available. Friends of the Morse School will serve free snacks in the cafeteria from 5:30 to 6PM and the workshop is from 6 to 7PM. Learn more at www.drumcallcps.com.

Please come join Morse School families and staff in the Morse gym for a free, vibrant celebration of West African dancing and live drumming!
