Dear Morse School Students and Families,
Happy May! We cannot believe that there are just 33 days left of school. We've got a busy month of May ahead of us.
Placement for Next Year
Over the coming weeks, our classroom teachers, specialists, counselors and special educators will work together to develop preliminary class lists for the 2024-2025 academic year. Our process is designed to create positive and balanced classrooms that will foster each child’s social and academic growth. We will take many factors into consideration, including the individual strengths and needs of each child and school demographics. The starting point for our placement process is to consider these factors for all of the children at a particular grade level, and to build individual class lists that take into account the different personalities and learning styles represented in the cohort. With such large and complex student cohorts - and with only two homeroom teachers at each grade level - we cannot accept requests for individual teachers. Please complete this form to support our planning by Wednesday, May 15th.
Spotlight on Ms. Bellino
Kindergarten teacher Therese Bellino will be retiring at the end of this school year. Her work with young children has spanned 35 years from Pre-K through 2nd grade. She worked in a private school for 13 years before joining CPS in 2006. We are fortunate that she began teaching at The Morse School in 2008 as a Special Start Teacher. She moved to Kindergarten in 2011 and began working with Mrs. Hites. Ms. Bellino reports that "her final year as a classroom teacher has joyously come full circle as I have a current student whose father was a student of mine as a preschooler." Her plans for the future include, spending time with family, singing, songwriting and substituting for CPSD. We are so grateful to Ms. Bellino for being such a warm and nurturing teacher to our kindergarten students. Enjoy your retirement Ms. Bellino – you deserve it!
Department of Public Works
On April 30th, Morse Preschool, JK, and Kindergarten classes participated in a City of Cambridge DPW Day. A portion of Granite Street was closed to traffic and parking during the event so that the street and E-Wing courtyard could be lined up with a variety of vehicles. Students loved touching the trucks, honking the horn, and "driving the truck." A big thank you to the DPW crew for engaging with our young students and answering their questions.
Field Day Date Change
We will celebrate the end of the school year with a community Field Day event on Thursday, June 6th. It is a fun-filled day of friendly competition, dancing and a school-wide picnic! Please consider volunteering to help facilitate a station (such as face painting, water balloon toss, potato sack race, etc.). More info to follow!
