Although it's a shorter week, we've managed to squeeze in some great learning opportunities for our students.
Upcoming Solar Eclipse
The Science Department will be providing eclipse viewing glasses for scholars in advance of the April 8 solar eclipse. Staff are welcome to extra. The eclipse will take place from 2:16 to 4:39PM, peaking at 3:29PM.
Dance in the Schools
Dance in the Schools is an innovative resource committed to bringing dance-based education to Cambridge Public Elementary School classrooms. Six of our classrooms are participating in this opportunity for exploring dances from around the world while connecting the arts to math concepts. Students are learning about self-awareness and creativity through movement.
Lockdown Drill
Yesterday’s lockdown drill was successful. Our students listened to instructions well. I am very proud of them. I encourage you to discuss the drill with your child. Our students and staff’s safety is of highest priority. As we shared, we practice a number of safety drills throughout the school year, including lockdown drills, to ensure that we are prepared in the event of a security threat inside the school. Our emergency preparedness plan has been developed in coordination with our Office of Safety and Security, the local police and fire departments, the Department of Education (Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools), and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Our plan is reviewed and updated regularly. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I appreciate your continued support.
Drum Call
The next workshop is Saturday, April 27th, at 4:30PM in the Morse School Gym. Learn more and register at www.drumcallcps.com. Morse School families and staff asked for more opportunities to learn West African dance and enjoy the live drumming, and we listened! Thank you to Friends of Morse for helping make this third workshop possible.
