Message from Samantha Headley: January 26, 2024

Dear Morse School Students and Families,

This week we've been busy getting ready for the Morse Winter Concert. Ms. Graeber and Ms. Ostrovsky-Kaminski have been preparing our JK-5 students for quite some time and this morning they got to shine! We were so proud of all of our students, especially our first time performers. The concert was a joyful way to start the day on a rainy morning.  We also got to showcase our brand new stage floor!

Gym Night & Paint Night

We had an active Gym Night last Friday. There was so much physical exercise happening! Thank you to Mr. Fousek, Ms. Mae, and Mr. B. for organizing such a successful community event that also promotes health and wellness.

Paint Night is on February 9th and we had 177 people sign up. Unfortunately, we only have 100 spots available so Ms. Kerr will use a lottery system and confirm selection with families later today. We recognize how many families would like to be a part of this fun night and are already in the talks of having two Paint Nights next year. Any family that was not selected this time, will have priority for the next Paint Night.

Ice Skating

Students in the second grade participated in the Physical Education department Learn-To-Skate field trip with the Boston Bruins at the Warrior Ice Arena. The Learn to Skate Field trip aligns with the Locomotor & Literacy unit for 2nd grade. Students were taught how to fall and stand up safely on and off the ice, skate forward and backwards, and other skating skills based on their personal experience. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to access a skating rink, be introduced to the skills associated with skating and perhaps inspire them to continue to grow their skills on the ice.

Junior Kindergarten Community Mural

Room D6 is in the middle of making a city mural representing Cambridge and their neighborhood. This is part of the Focus on JK Curriculum. They have made neighborhood landmarks and cityscapes so far. Next, students will work on roads and vehicles to add to the project. D6 families are invited to send in photos of their homes to include in the mural as well.

Drum Call

Join Morse School families and staff to dance, enjoy live drumming, and build and celebrate our community! Drum Call is a new program providing free workshops with traditional West African dance instruction and live drumming. Attend one or both events: Saturday, March 2nd at 4PM and Friday, March 22nd at 5:30PM. Register and learn more at www.drumcallcps.com.
