Dear Morse School Students and Families,
We have some wonderful news! I am delighted to announce that our school is being honored as a National 2023 Distinguished School. We are one of only two schools named in Massachusetts by DESE for exceptional student performance and academic growth over two years or more. The School Department will be sending out more information through a community press release and we will share more about this acknowledgement in the weeks to come. This recognition would not have been possible without the dedication of our staff, hard work of our students and the collaboration with families. Morse has served as an exceptional environment for our students to thrive. Thank you to every member of the Morse community. Ms. Allison, former Principal Dr. Leith, and I could not be prouder.
Family School Climate Survey
We are collecting feedback on our "School Climate, Belonging and Barriers to Engagement." Please take the anonymous ten minute survey so that we can learn about what is going well and what we can improve on. The survey needs to be completed in one setting but you can skip questions as long as you submit the survey at the end. The survey is available in Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. Please use this Survey Link or click the survey button. If you need any help, please reach out to Amy Diaz, family liaison, or Elaine Delaney, administrative assistant. The survey will close on 12/15/23.
Brrr..the Cold is Here!
Please make sure to send your children to school with a warm jacket, gloves/mittens, and a hat. If you are in need of any winter gear please check out the FMS Winter Clothing Exchange from December 4-15th from 8AM - 5PM at the main entrance of the school.
Celebrating Members of Our Community
Roxbury Community Center unveiled a new mural, ‘An Ode to Africa in the Americas’ on campus. This vibrant artwork honors the past, present, and future of BIPOC communities and of the African experience in America. The project was led by Robert Chao in collaboration with other artists, including one of our newest members of the Morse Community, parent, Cristóbal Sánchez, father to First Grader, Leo. This was an important art project focused on the complexities, devastation, joy, resilience and brilliance of the African experience in America. Here's a quick peak but please explore the mural in all of its richness and beauty here.
In addition, Jossy Lee, parent to Jeremy (3rd grade) and Timothy (Kindergarten) visited Ms. Connelly's room recently to share a book she wrote titled, "Mommy Goes to Work." This 2021 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards Winning tells a familiar story of what it is like to return to work after a maternity leave. Check out this video to learn more!
We are so grateful for the ways that our families share their talent and interests with our students. These are amazing opportunities for even our youngest learners to think about different talents, professions and ways to express ourselves.
Family Math Pop-Up Event
The Family and Community Engagement Team in collaboration with the Math Department would like to invite you to join us for a Family Math Pop-Up Social! This is a great and fun opportunity for families to come together, connect, play, and explore different math games and activities. As always, come and join the festivities, indulge in some delicious food, and participate in our raffle to win some amazing math games.
What makes this social special? Some games and activities will be led by students! And, we are excited to have our community math partner, MathTalk, join us for the evening.
