Message from Principal Samantha Headley: November 3, 2023

Dear Morse School Students and Families,

Although the weather switched on us, our spirit stays strong! We had another great week of learning at the Morse School and what better way to end it than with our wondering International Potluck Festival!

Parent/Caregiver & Teacher Conferences
Conferences for Special Start to Grade 5 take place the week of November 13th - 17th. Each teacher is offering a variety of options – morning, afternoon, evening as well as virtual or in-person. Please sign up for one of the available slots shared by your child's teacher. In the event that you are unable to attend a time that you have signed-up for, please contact the teacher asap so that they are not expecting you.

WIN Block
Students in grades 1-5 have a daily 30-minute block called WIN: What Individuals Need. During this block, our educators (classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, special educators, special subject teachers, social worker, and interventionists) provide students with individual or small group instruction in an area they could use enrichment or support. The WIN block activities will change over time as we use our most current data to determine what students are in need of. If you have questions about this, please ask your child's teacher during conferences.

Celebration of Learning
We had our first celebration of learning and we had a wonderful turnout of families. The students in third grade were so happy to share their work so far this year and went through the process of selecting what they were most proud of. Each grade will have one celebration of learning per semester. Please see the celebrations listed below for our next sessions.

Live Stream
During this morning's Live Stream, we read the book "Come and Join Us! 18 Holidays Celebrated All Year Long" written by Liz Kleinrock and illustrated by Chaaya Prabhat. Holidays featured include: Seollal, Holi, Nowruz, Passover, Vaisakhi, Vesak, Juneteenth, Homecoming, Onam, Obon, Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur, Makahiki, Día de los Muertos, Diwali, Kwanzaa, Ramadan & Eid al-Fitr. If your family celebrates one of these holidays, we would love to have your child share a little about it. Also, if there is an important holiday that you celebrate that wasn't listed, please let us know! We would love to share with our community.

International Festival
The International Festival is tonight! This is the annual celebration of our diverse Morse School community, organized by the Friends of the Morse School. It is perhaps the largest gathering of the community each year, featuring a potluck dinner, activities, and live entertainment. Bring a dish to share for the potluck that represents your family and/or culture. If you haven't completed your family flag yet, that's ok! Just bring it in tonight or you can make one while you are at the festival. Volunteer to help the event run smoothly. Wear traditional clothing that represents your culture. Host a culture table. Participate in various activities, try lots of yummy new foods, and enjoy the entertainment! Click here to learn more!

Scholastic Book Fair
The Morse School is having a Book Fair in our library! This is our first Book Fair in 6 years! It has been open to students from Wednesday, November 1st to today from 8AM - 3PM. This evening, we will open it up to families from 5 - 6:30PM – just before the International Festival!

Cash? Credit? How do I make purchases? Feel free to send your child in with cash or  Scholastic has also set up something called E-Wallet (click to learn more). All major credit cards are accepted. Checks cannot be accepted. You may also check out Book Fair Online: Click to explore the online purchasing options
