Message from Chad Leith: March 13, 2023

Dear Morse School Parents and Caregivers,

Gym NightIt was wonderful seeing so many Morse School families and staff members at our Family Gym & Game Night (click here to read about the event and see a slideshow)! Community events like this provide a great opportunity for students, parents, and staff members to connect with each other informally. Our next evening event will be the Friends of Morse Movie Night this Friday, March 17th.

Please note that we have rescheduled our Math & Literacy Carnival to avoid conflicting with Ramadan, which is observed by many Morse School families. The Math & Literacy Carnival will now take place on Thursday, April 27th.

i-Ready Family Reports & Mid-Year Progress Monitoring
Last week, 3rd-5th grade parents and caregivers received their children’s i-Ready Family Reports through ParentSquare. The i-Ready Family Report provides information on:

  • Your child’s performance in reading and math at the midpoint of the school year; and,
  • The growth that your child has demonstrated between the fall and winter assessments.

Overall, the percentage of 3rd-5th graders demonstrating at- or above-grade level skills has increased from 60% to 67% in reading and 37% to 56% in math. Our early-grade assessments suggest similar growth. Our teachers have spent time analyzing our mid-year data and are making adjustments where needed so that we build upon this positive momentum and increase the percentage of students who are demonstrating grade-level readiness.

If you are the parent or caregiver of a 3rd-5th grader, you can partner with us in this effort by making sure that your child logs onto i-Ready Personalized Instruction 2-3 times each week at home. Personalized Instruction uses your child’s i-Ready diagnostic data to determine their specific skills and needs. The program develops customized lessons to improve and accelerate reading and math skills, whether students are performing below, on, or above grade level.

Morse School Council (Virtual Meeting)
Thursday, March 16 | 6:30-7:30PM
Our next School Council meeting is scheduled to take place this Thursday evening. At this month’s meeting, I will share additional mid-year assessment data, updates on staffing and enrollment for the coming school year, and plans for welcoming our incoming JK/K families. All Morse School parents and caregivers are warmly invited to attend (please register here). To learn more about the composition of our School Council and/or to share comments, questions, or concerns, please visit the School Council Page on our website.

Early Release Day
Finally, a reminder that this Wednesday March 15th is an early release day at the Morse School. Dismissal will be at 12:25PM. Please be sure to let your child’s teacher know if you expect any change to your child’s regular dismissal routine.

My very best wishes for a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Principal Chad Leith
