Message from Principal Chad Leith: March 21, 2022

Dear Morse School Parents & Caregivers,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Friday’s Morse Family Gym & Game Night, which provided us all with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and celebrate our Morse School community. From the indoor playground we had set up in the Cafeteria, to the small-sided soccer and basketball games in the Gym, to Ms. Kerr’s “action art” activities in the Art Studio, to the Just Dance competition in our Main Lobby and the outdoor food court that our Friends of Morse School partners had set up by our Main Entrance, there were many ways for kids to have fun and many spaces for parents and caregivers to reconnect with one another. A special appreciation for Family Liaison Kasey Clermont, Art Teacher Aimee Kerr, and P.E. Teacher Phil Fousek for the time and care they put into planning Friday evening’s event.

Parent Coffee Hour Tomorrow: 8:10 - 9AM in the Main Lobby
Family Liaison Kasey Clermont and I will be hosting a parent coffee hour tomorrow morning in the Morse School Main Lobby. Please stop by after you drop off your child for a cup of coffee (or a baked treat!) and some enjoy the opportunity to connect informally with other parents. We look forward to hearing your questions, concerns, and suggestions!

Morse School Equity Self-Assessment Team Update
Last Tuesday, March 15th, we convened the first meeting of our school’s Equity Self-Assessment Team. The group - which currently includes five parents/caregivers, six staff members, Ms. Headley, and myself - will spend the next three months working towards identifying inequities that negatively impact the success and well being of racially, culturally, and socially marginalized students and families in our school. I look forward to sharing more information with you as we get deeper into the self-assessment process and begin identifying concrete steps for addressing these barriers to equity. Our goal is to make our school a more positive, welcoming, and supportive place for all members of our community.

School Council Meeting: Thursday | 6 - 7:30PM
Our next School Council meeting will take place this Thursday March 24th from 6-7:30PM. At our meeting, I will share updates, answer questions, and solicit input on various school initiatives. All Morse School parents and caregivers are invited to attend. The meeting will be virtual and you can register to attend by following this link.

Please note that the Virtual Parent Workshop on Restorative Practices has been postponed to Thursday, April 7th from 6-7PM.

Finally, a heads up for our Gr. 3-5 families. Please keep your eyes out for a message from Superintendent Greer with information about our mid-year i-Ready screeners. Results will be going home soon to parents and caregivers, and the Superintendent’s message will include some helpful information for interpreting your child’s results. I’ll share more about our i-Ready data at Thursday’s School Council meeting.

As always, I am grateful to you for your partnership and support. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our community and look forward to collaborating with you as we continue to make the Morse School a place where all children feel happy and successful.

Sincerely,

Principal Chad Leith
