Message from Chad Leith: May 19, 2021

Dear Morse School Parents & Caregivers,

As you are likely aware, Governor Baker has announced new guidelines that will impact the way we approach. As Superintendent Salim has shared in the message he sent to the CPS community this morning, no changes will be made to our safety procedures until Monday, May 24th. For the remainder of this week - including during tomorrow’s Morse Marathon - masks must be worn by all students, staff members, and parent volunteers or spectators. Beginning on Monday, masks will be optional for children and adults while outdoors.

Morse Marathon Reminders
In the family newsletter I shared last week, I offered an overview of this year’s Morse Marathon, including information about COVID safety protocols. As a reminder, remote learners have two options for participating. If you plan to have your child participate in the Marathon in person, you should aim to arrive at around 10:00 AM. If you are driving, please park in the lot by the Magazine Beach baseball diamond. If you are walking, please come over the Memorial Drive footbridge. As a reminder, parents will be able to watch - but not participate - in this year's Marathon. For remote learners who prefer to stay home, Mr. F has prepared an exclusive asynchronous Morse Marathon video with special activities that your child can complete to earn “laps!” Your child’s teacher will share this video with you tomorrow morning. All in-person learners will participate with their classroom communities at designated times between 9:00-12:00. Please remember that the Morse Marathon is not only an event to promote fitness and community, it is also a fundraising event for our school. You can donate by completing a pledge sheet for your student runner, or by making an online contribution through the Friends of Morse website.

Race & Equity Working Group Meeting – Tomorrow 6-7:30PM
The next meeting of our Race & Equity Working Working group will take place tomorrow evening from 6-7:30PM. The purpose of the group is to provide a safe and brave space to do the critical work of coming into awareness and taking action to dismantle racism. In our continued effort to understand and disrupt patterns of racism that impact our community, we will center tomorrow’s conversation around building awareness of historical and current discrimination and bias towards Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. All Morse School staff members, parents, and caregivers are warmly invited to participate. To receive a Zoom link for the meeting, please send me an email by 4PM tomorrow.
