Message from Chad Leith: May 1, 2020

Dear members of the Morse School community,

Chad LeithFirst of all, I want to thank you for all you have done to support your children’s smooth return to distance learning after the April vacation. We have been pleased, overall, to see that most of our students have jumped right back into their learning activities and virtual classroom meetings. Over the coming weeks, our classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and special educators will be honing in on the academic skills and concepts that will be most important for student success in the next grade. At both the school and district level, we are very much thinking about the impact that the extended school closure will have on our children’s learning and growth trajectories. We know that we will need to think flexibly and creatively about summer learning opportunities and will need to think differently about how we welcome students back in the fall. All schools in Cambridge and Massachusetts find themselves in a similar situation. I am confident that by working together, we will successfully overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

In the meantime, I ask that you please support your children by making sure that they follow predictable daily routines and that they are connecting daily (Monday through Friday) with the online learning opportunities being provided by their teachers and specialists. As I’ve written previously, I also ask that you also keep in mind the importance of outdoor movement for children. My family and I have been making an effort each day to put on our masks and take a walk through our Cambridgeport neighborhood. The weather this weekend is forecast to be sunny and warm and I encourage you to plan safe opportunities for your children to get some fresh air!

Planning for Next Year
In order to plan effectively for the 2020-2021 school year, it is important for us to identify those students who do not intend to return to the Morse School in September. If you are not planning to return to the Morse School next year, please take a moment to complete this online Intent to Transfer form. We ask that you complete the form no later than next Friday, May 8th. Please note that families who are planning to return to the Morse School do not need to complete this step, as your children will be automatically re-enrolled.
