Message from Principal Chad Leith: March 26, 2019

Dear Morse School Parents, Caregivers and Families,

Spring has arrived at the Morse School, with the first buds appearing on our trees and our students enjoying regular outdoor play in our newly-updated outdoor play spaces!

ianWelcome Ian Grosfelt!
Please join me in welcoming our new CitySprouts garden educator Ian Grosfelt. Ian is a graduate of Cornell University and comes to CitySprouts from Solar Youth in New Haven, CT, where he was the Green Jobs Manager. Prior to that, he was an Garden Educator & Coordinator with Heifer Farm and spent two years as an Agricultural Extension Agent with the Peace Corps in Senegal. Ian has already begun working with Morse School teachers to enrich classroom learning experiences through nature exploration and urban gardening!

playgroundImagination Playground Playpod
Our playground renovations have involved more than new outdoor play structures. Yesterday, we unveiled a new set of oversized blocks from Imagination Playground in our Library courtyard. Our 3rd graders jumped right into fun and self-initiated building and play. Aside from some basic ground rules for safety (which the 3rd graders will help to develop over the coming days), the blocks are meant to allow students to play creatively with no direction or hidden educational agenda. We hope that the younger students who also regularly use our Library courtyard will soon be able to enjoy these blocks as well!

Race & Equity Working Group Meeting
As a reminder, the next meeting of our Race & Equity Working Group meeting will take place this Thursday, March 28th from 4:30-6:30PM in the Morse Library. At Thursday’s meeting we will continue to identify goals for achieving a vision of equity at the Morse School. All staff and family members are invited to attend. If you plan to attend and will need child care, please let me know by tomorrow ([email protected]).

Reminder: April 10th Parent Workshop on Helping Kids Navigate Digital Tools
Please save the date for an April 10th workshop aimed at providing Morse School parents and caregivers with tips, tricks, and resources for troubleshooting some common questions and concerns about our children and their use of social media, cell phones, and other digital tools such as TV, internet, and video games. This interactive presentation, which will take place in the Cafeteria from 6-7:30PM, will include research-based suggestions for supporting students using these tools as they grow in our increasingly connected world. Pizza and childcare will be provided. If you are interested in participating, please RSVP by following this link or by reaching out to the Morse School Tech Specialist Jen Lavalle ([email protected]).

Finally, we hope to see many of you at our Variety Show this Friday, March 29th at 6PM in the Morse Auditorium. Many thanks to Ms. Gallant for organizing this much-anticipated community event!

Sincerely,

Chad Leith
