Message from Principal Chad Leith: October 18, 2021

Dear Morse School Parents and Caregivers,

We have gotten the year off to a largely strong and positive start, thanks to the collaboration and creativity of our teachers, the support we have received from our parents, and the energy and excitement that our students bring with them every day. Now that we have gotten our classroom routines in place, we are eager to strengthen connections with our families. Our school benefits greatly from hearing the voices and perspectives of our parents and caregivers, and over the coming days there will be three great opportunities to get involved:

Tomorrow, Tuesday 10/19 (8:30 PM) - Friends of Morse School (Virtual Meeting)
The Friends of Morse School functions as our school’s volunteer parent organization. The group meets monthly to plan community events and devise strategies for raising funds to enhance classroom instruction and support school priorities. All Morse School parents and caregivers are warmly invited to join tomorrow evening’s virtual meeting (Zoom link here). For more information about the Friends of Morse School, please see this overview.

Thursday 10/21 (6-7:30 PM) - Morse School Council (Virtual Meeting)
The Morse School Council is a legally-required representative group of parents and teachers who play an important role in shaping the policies and programs of the school. This year, the School Council will provide input into the development of our School Improvement Plan. At this Thursday’s meeting, I will share information about our fall assessments and the steps that we are taking to close academic, social, and emotional learning gaps. If you are interested in attending the meeting, please register here. To learn more about the composition of our School Council and/or to share comments, questions, or concerns, please visit the School Council page on our website.

Sunday 10/24 (3 PM) - Morse Caregivers of Color Affinity Group (In-Person Gathering)
The Morse School Caregivers of Color Affinity Group (Familia Umoja) is intended as a safe and joyful space for the purpose of building community, as we honor each other’s identities and lived experiences, share information, and empower each other to advocate for our children to be heard, seen and thrive at the Morse School. Organized by Jennifer Betancourt (parent of a current 5th grader) and Kim Bostic-Williams (parent of a current 4th grader), the group will hold its first meeting of the 2021-2022 school year this Sunday afternoon at the Morse School Playground. Please see this flyer for more information.

Countdown to the Fall 2021 Morse Marathon!
This year’s Morse Marathon will take place next Tuesday 10/26 from 9-11AM at Magazine Beach Park (located on the other side of the Memorial Drive footbridge). The Morse Marathon is not only an event to promote fitness and community, it is also a fundraising event for our school. Money raised through events like this one directly benefits your children, by helping to pay for field trips, learning materials, and enrichment activities. You can donate by completing the pledge sheet that went home in your student runner’s backpack, or by making an online contribution through the Friends of Morse website.

Finally, please remember that this Wednesday 10/20 will be an Early Release Day. School dismissal will take place two hours early (at 12:25PM).

Thank you,

Chad
