Message from Samantha Headley: February 2, 2024

Dear Morse School Students and Families,

This week we said goodbye to January and hello to February! It was a busy January and in today's livestream, we shared a highlights reel of the Coady Awards, Gym Night, second grade ice skating and the Winter Concert. Also, thanks to the help of our Student Council we created a short PSA to remind students of the expected behavior in the shared bathrooms. The Student Council members modeled how to respect each other's privacy, how to be responsible and respectful of each other's space.

Black History Month

Although we celebrate our diversity all year, Black History Month begins tomorrow and it is a time to lift up the history and accomplishments of African Americans. This year's theme is African Americans in the Arts. We will be highlighting  African American artists — poets, writers, visual artists, and dancers — who have historically served as change agents through their crafts. Our staff and students will participate in our annual door decorating project where we beautify our doors in honor of an African-American that our students have learned about whose life has had an impact on society and history.

Winter Assessments, Data Retreats, and Semester I Report Cards

Winter assessments are complete and our teachers, interventionists, social worker, special educators, coaches and administrators have been involved in data retreats. Each grade level spends one full day analyzing student data from the winter reading and math assessments. Together, they identify strengths and areas for growth. Next, they work to develop a plan for instruction as a whole class, in small groups and for individual students to help improve academic performance and social emotional learning. Please look out for the Semester I report cards which will be in your child's backpack today! If you have any questions, please email your child's homeroom teacher .

Semester II Celebrations of Learning

Our grade level teams have identified dates and times for their Semester II Celebrations of Learning. Please save the dates and look out for more information from your child's teacher as the date approaches.
