Message from Samantha Headley: January 19, 2024

Dear Morse School Students and Families,

Brrr! It's been a cold week outside but so warm and cozy inside the Morse School!  We have been working hard at growing our brains and becoming stronger learners.

Cricket

We are so excited that this year our fifth graders are learning about cricket. This sport began in England and through the process of colonization, it spread across the world, including in my country of origin, Sri Lanka!  Thanks to the collaboration between our PE teachers, Mr. Fousek, Mr. Bloy, Ms. Mae and parent & FMS President, Vivek Sikri; we have brought cricket to the Morse! Vivek has been joining the fifth grade PE block to help instruct students in the sport.  It has been very exciting for our students - both as something new to learn and also for those students who feel represented because cricket is a popular sport in their heritage. Check out this quick video to learn more about cricket.

Live Stream

On this morning's Morse Community Live Stream, we announced our Coady Award recipients. The James Coady Award for extraordinary effort is named in honor of former Morse School Principal James Coady. The award has been given out for 30 years. A student chosen for the Coady Award may only receive this recognition once in their elementary school career. Students are selected by the educators that work with their class and  selection of the award is not necessarily based on the highest academic record. Instead, it serves to recognize a student who has served as a model for our school’s core values. It may be a student who has made considerable progress in academics, or a student who has overcome a particular challenge in either school or in their personal lives. Coady Award winners are children who show leadership and perseverance, despite the setbacks and challenges that they encounter in their lives. They are considerate and kind to others, they are good role models for fellow students, and they contribute consistently and positively to our school community. We are so proud of the Semester I Coady recipients:
