Community HelpersThis week, Officer Ozzie Ortiz came to visit the Junior Kindergartners in Room B8! Officer Ozzie is a familiar face at the Morse School, spending a few days a week at the Morse as part of the Cambridge Police Department's Student Resource Officer (SRO) program. There are nine SRO’s working with Cambridge Public Schools. Officer Ortiz was born and raised in Cambridge. He grew up in the Port area and attended the Roberts School - now known as the Fletcher Maynard Academy. He went on to graduate from the Occupational Education Program (now known as RSTA) at CRLS. He has been a Cambridge Police Office for the last 25 years. The first 20 years he was a Community Relations Officer and the last five years he has been as an SRO.

Officer Ozzie showed the B8 students some of the equipment he uses to communicate with his department, and the tools he has to help keep people safe. He also answered the Junior Kindergartners many questions about life as a police officer. Be sure to give Officer Ozzie a wave if YOU see him at Morse School!
