Message from Samantha Headley: January 17, 2025

Dear Morse School Community,

Student on PhoneWell we are back in the swing of things and there has been so much learning happening across our school. I wanted to share some exciting ways that we are honoring student effort and celebrating our special subjects. As you know, last Friday was Gym Night and there are some other important community events coming up! Before we get into all of that, I had to share this photo of Maharshi who graciously stepped in for Ms. Elaine for a few minutes. Ms. Elaine, you better watch out, you might have some competition!

Semester I Coady Award Recipients
This morning on our Live Stream, we announced our Coady Award recipients. The James Coady Award for extraordinary effort is named in honor of former Morse School Principal James Coady. The award has been given out for 30 years. A student chosen for the Coady Award may only receive this recognition once in their elementary school career. Students are selected by the educators that work with their class and selection of the award is not necessarily based on the highest academic record. Instead, it serves to recognize a student who has served as a model for our school’s core values. It may be a student who has made considerable progress in academics, or a student who has overcome a particular challenge in either school or in their personal lives. Coady Award winners are children who show leadership and perseverance, despite the setbacks and challenges that they encounter in their lives. They are considerate and kind to others, they are good role models for fellow students, and they contribute consistently and positively to our school community. We are so proud of the Semester I Coady recipients:

Girls on the Run
Girls on the RunLooking to make an impact? Serve as a coach with Girls on the Run at Morse! The season will tentatively begin the week of March 30th and culminate with the regional Celebratory 5K tentatively on Saturday, May 31st, or Sunday, June 1st. Parent SooJin Chu (parent of Edith and Cora) will be one of the coaches and we are looking for 3 more volunteer coaches to help lead the team. Coaches will be trained and you do not need to be a runner or an athlete! You do need to be available for practice 2x/week for 75/90 minutes for the 8-week season (Mondays and Thursdays from 2:45-4:15PM). This is a great way to build confidence, create healthy habits and social emotional skills in our girls. Attached is a GOTR Curriculum Sample Lesson of the curriculum to give you a sense of the practices. To express interest, please reach out to Sam or Kristin by Friday, January 17th.

Kindergarten - Grade 4 Winter Music Concert
Get your cameras ready! Our Morse School Winter Concert for grades Kindergarten through grade 4 will be held on Friday, January 24th at 8:30AM (approximately 45 mins.). We can't wait for you to hear our students sing some wonderful songs in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., including a special song written by third graders.

The audience will be limited to families only - no Morse School siblings will attend at that time. But not to worry, all Morse students in Kindergarten through grade 5 were invited to watch the concert at our dress rehearsal this morning.

CPP Read, Sing, Create Event
Please join us on Friday, May 2nd for a CPP exclusive event. Morse librarian, Ms. Pennell, music teacher, Ms. Graeber, and art teacher, Ms. Kerr have organized an evening of fun for families. The main event is from 5:30 - 6:30PM but you are welcome to come at 5PM and bring a picnic (or pizza for purchase from FMS). It is a fabulous way to mingle with other CPP families and get to see what your preschoolers have been doing in art, music, and library.

UPDATE: Morse Kindergarten - 5th Grade Paint Night
We are excited to have our annual Paint Night facilitated by Morse Art Teacher, Aimee Kerr on Friday, February 7th from 6-8PM. Come create a step by step painting together in the style of Vincent van Goh. Every child & grown-up will each create their own painting! This event is only for Kindergarten-5th grade students and a grown-up. To allow the most families possible, please consider just 1 grown-up per family. We have a limit of 100 seats in the cafeteria. Painting side by side is a fun bonding experience for the family and the school community! This event is free and all paint supplies will be provided. Registration will be via this Google form. Email any questions to Aimee Kerr, Morse Art Teacher, at [email protected].

notified by the end of day on January 24th.

CKLA Update
As you know the district has rolled out a new ELA curriculum - CKLA for grades 1-12. Our staff and students are getting ready to start their fourth unit and we thought we would share a video from the ELA Department that gives an update on how the adoption of this new curriculum is going. You'll hear from teachers and learn more about the units that have been taught.
