Message from Samantha Headley: September 26, 2025

students and staffDear Morse School Community,

Happy Friday! Well, we finally got the rain our grass and gardens needed all summer! Despite the rainy weather, we had a wonderful week of learning at Morse.

Professional Learning For Staff

This past Wednesday, our staff participated in a professional development around Family Engagement. We are working on strengthening our school-home partnerships to support academic achievement for our students. We are working to ensure that our family engagement meets three key criteria: that caregivers have a clear understanding of what their child is learning in school and where they are at in meeting their learning goals; that families learn about ways to support their child at home to meet these goals; and that caregivers have a chance to share knowledge about their child with educators.

Live Stream

During this week's Morse LiveStream, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Students and staff shared their admiration for the people, places, and things that contribute to their culture and identity. We were all able to learn a little Spanish as well!

We continue to teach, revisit, and learn about our Morse Code. Students in Grade 5 modeled how to beinclusiveon the playground. When everyone maintains a safe body, includes others in games, and is mindful of others’ interests and abilities we have a successful recess. In addition the Fifth Graders demonstrated to the community that beingkindandresponsiblein the hallways helps others learn. They gave us some strategies to support a safe and nurturing environment.

CPP-5 Back to School Night

Tuesday, September 30th from 6-8pm is our annual Back to School Night. We invite all Morse School parents and caregivers to meet your children’s teachers, connect with other parents, and gain an understanding ofwhatandhowyour child will be learning during the 2025-2026 school year. The schedule will look like this:

  • 6:00 - 6:15 - Visit Special Subject Teachers & Other Educators in the Lobby

  • 6:15 - 6:30 - School Administration Presentation in the Auditorium

  • 6:30 - 7:10 - Classroom Presentations Round 1

  • 7:15 - 7:55 - Classroom Presentations Round 2

Classroom presentations will be essentially the same and we are offering two times to accommodate families who have more than one child at the Morse School. The visit to your child’s classroom is for:

  • a short presentation from your child’s teacher;

  • an opportunity to meet other caregivers from your child’s class; and

  • a chance to ask questions.

Throughout the evening, our specialists and community partners will be in the Main Lobby to share information about their roles and to answer your questions.

In order to make the most of this open house format,we recommend you attend the open housewithoutyour children. If you had registered for child care, you should have received a confirmation email from Amy Diaz. Please note that due to staffing, we are unable to offer additional spots.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, September 30th, and sharing more about the big curriculum ideas and the daily classroom experiences that make the Morse School a special place to learn and grow! Please don't forget to vote in the Lobby for the open School Council seat.

Monday Clubs for Grades 3-5

We are excited to offer five rounds of Monday after school clubs for our 3rd-5th graders this year. Clubs are facilitated by Morse Staff and are free for families. There will be a late bus offered to provide equitable access for all students. Our first round will begin October 20th and we will share a registration form in next Friday's newsletter.
