Dear Morse School Community,

Wow! We've almost completed our 7th month of school! The time is flying by and we cannot believe we are welcoming April next week!
Planning Ahead for SY 25-26
We have begun planning for SY 25-26. Yesterday, I sent out a survey for K-5 families to complete if they are not returning to the Morse next year. This information will help us as we begin to work on class rosters.
Over the coming weeks, our classroom teachers, specialists, counselors and special educators will work together to develop preliminary class lists for the 2025-2026 academic year. Our process is designed to create positive and balanced classrooms that will foster each child’s positive social and academic growth.
We will take many factors into consideration, including the individual strengths and needs of each child and school demographics. It has also been our observation and experience that peer dynamics can have as much (or sometimes even more) of an impact on a child's schooling experience as the teacher with whom a child is placed. This is why the starting point for our placement process is to consider the strengths and needs of all of the children at a particular grade level, and to build individual class lists that take into account the different personalities and learning styles represented in the cohort.
With such large and complex student cohorts, we cannot accept requests for individual teachers. Completing
this form is not required. However, you know your child best and we would welcome any information that you believe would help us in placing your child in a classroom community that will best support your child's overall growth, success, and sense of belonging at the Morse School.
This form is due by Friday, May 16th, 2025.
Girls on the Run (Grades 3-5)
We have 4 spots left! If your child is interested, it begins on April 1st and will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45PM to 4:15PM. There is a late bus if you live more than a mile from the school. Thank you to parents, SooJin Chu & Lynn Simpson, community member Hannah Fontenot, and our staff members, Margaret Campagna and Kaitlyn Fallon for volunteering to coach. Please reach out if you are interested in your child joining GOR!
Caregiver Workshop: Executive Functioning
Having a hard time with your child's bedtime routine? Maybe homework is a battle? Perhaps you find yourself explaining directions to your child multiple times? Please join us on Thursday, May 8th from 6-7PM to learn more about Executive Functioning skills and how to support your child at home! To help our consultant,
Alexis Reid design a workshop specifically for our families, we ask that you complete this
short survey to share your needs.
MCAS (Grades 3-5)
On Tuesday, the district sent out communication about the
Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS). MCAS testing is one of a variety of assessments that help us know how students are doing in relation to the standards outlined for grades 3 - 5 in the
Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
Federal and state law requires students to take the MCAS. In November 2024, Massachusetts voters passed
ballot Question 2 that impacts graduation requirements and MCAS. Students are still required to take MCAS, but are not required to pass MCAS in high school in order to graduate. We work hard at Morse to alleviate stress around this kind of testing by preparing students for MCAS through teaching the academic standards for their grade and helping them understand test-taking strategies. It is important that your child gets a good night's sleep the night before MCAS and arrives on time. Please check the schedule below for grade specific dates.
