Message from Samantha Headley: February 7, 2025

Dear Morse School Community,

This week we enjoyed our first full week of February. Semester I report cards went home this week. Staff have been meeting in their grade level teams to discuss mid-year assessment data and plan WIN groups and next steps for instruction. Our staff and students have been busy but Phoenix in first grade reminds us that everything is going to be alright!

Wrapping Up Semester I

You should be receiving your child's iReady report (grades 3-5) or mClass and Forefront reports (K-2) soon. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher. Students might have been recommended for personalized instruction on Boost or iReady as part of a next step in their report. If you need help getting your child set up on either platform, please let me know.

Live Stream

This morning we lifted up our Morse Core Values by watching a video on kindness from Kindergarten B7 and D6. In addition, we saw footage of students in Grade 3 working together to practice coding and creating with LEGO robotics kits.  This teamwork was inclusive and highlighted the importance of using problem solving skills. Although we celebrate the diversity of our community all year, this month we are lifting up the voices, contributions, and stories of African, African American, and Afro-Caribbean individuals. We have been highlighting Cambridge Black Trailblazers, celebrating accomplishments of leaders from right here in Cambridge! Also, we've done our annual door decorating project so Morse students and staff can walk the halls, check out the doors, and learn more about the many impacts Black Americans have had on visual arts, science, math, music, cultural movements, and more. The classroom doors are a great reminder to our school community about these extraordinary people whose courage, intelligence, talent, and perseverance helped to make positive change in our country.

Social Media and Mental Health

Wondering how you can support your child with social media? First, please be mindful that for most social media apps, elementary students are still underage. If you have given your child permission to access social media, it is essential that we are helping children know how to do it safely and responsibly. Check out this webinar hosted in partnership with Cartwheel and the American Academy of Pediatrics Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health to explore current research and learn about valuable resources and tips supporting your children.
