Back on December 5th, the 3rd grade went on a field trip to the ICA. After exploring the art of Yayoi Kusama this past fall, students learned about her varied interests of polka dots, pumpkins, mirrors, and infinity rooms. At the ICA, third graders were able to enter and experience her infinity room, titled "Love is Calling" first hand. In addition to viewing Kusama's art, students were able to learn about several other contemporary artworks and create a collage in their ArtLab.

Kusama is a Japanese artist, aged 90, who has created countless drawings, paintings, sculptures, and installations over her long career. One of her well-known creations are "infinity rooms", or enclosed rooms filled with mirrors that send the sculptures located inside the room to infinity.

You can learn more about the ICA and Yayoi Kusama here.

The infinity room exhibit is only on display through February 29th, so if you're interested in going, plan a visit ASAP!

*At the Morse Art Show this spring, 3rd graders will have their own version of Kusama-inspired sculptures on display.

*Exploring Kusama's artwork will also give you a sneak peek to the next Morse School Paint Night subject!
