Message from Samantha Headley: December 6, 2024

Dear Morse School Community,

It has been a while! I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break with friends and family. We came back with a busy start to December.

Live Stream

On today's Live Stream, we talked about the upcoming Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice is often referred to as the shortest day of the year, with the fewest hours of sunlight. Ms. Allison and I shared that although the Winter Solstice means the start of winter, it also means the return of more sunlight. It only gets brighter from here! We interviewed students who were able to take a similar positive spin on a situation. They told about something that makes them feel good or some hope they find during a challenging situation. They shared these "bright spots" from their experiences to inspire others.

Morse School Spirit Week

Our Student Council has organized a fun School Spirit Week for the week of December 16th - 20th. They brainstormed, discussed, collaborated and came to consensus as a team and here are the resulting themes:

Mon., December 16th- Cozy Day

Alternative: Wear green

Tues., December 17th- Sports Day

Alternative: Wear purple

Wed., December 18th- Socks & Crocs/Comfy Footwear Day

Alternative: Wear blue

Thurs., December 19th- Dress as Famous Person/Character Day

Alternative: Wear red

Fri., December 20th- Choose Your Own Secret Group Theme Day

Alternative: Wear black

Update on Morse School Name

We want to thank families and staff for taking the time to complete our Morse School Name Feedback Survey. During the month of December our School Council, our Faculty Advisory Committee and our Equity Team will review the survey data results and each team will identify the themes, implications and recommendations for next steps. Ms. Allison and I will then share the feedback and recommendations with district level staff to receive guidance. Please note that as stated prior, while we value the conversation and importance of this, we are mindful of engaging in the process without distracting from the work we are doing towards our School Improvement Plan goals for the year.

Parent/Caregiver Conferences

If you have not yet met with your child's teacher for conferences, please set up a time asap to hear about their progress.

Personal Cell Phones, Smart Watches & Electronic Devices

Cell phones and smart watches belonging to students must be kept in backpacks and turned off during regular school hours. Morse School staff members reserve the right to take cell phones or smart watches from students who do not turn them off and/or store them in backpacks during the school day. The first time a phone or smart watch is taken, it will be returned to the student at the end of the day. The second time a phone or smart watch is taken, a parent or guardian will be expected to come into school to retrieve it. The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged or misplaced cell phones or smart watches. In an effort to foster an effective learning environment for all children, electronic devices such as tablets and hand-held video games are not allowed in school or on school buses. Such devices will be confiscated and returned to parents with the understanding that they will not be brought to school again. The Morse School is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen electronic equipment.
