Written by: Emily Kocandrle, Grade 2 Teacher We are so pleased that the first-ever 2nd grade production of Charlotte's Web was such a success! Our students worked so hard to read and understand the story, deeply learn the characters, memorize lines, and rehearse movements on stage. Their dedication was evident during their performance on Friday, May 15th. We especially thank Lisa Ebel for leading the costume design, Kelly Graeber for her work with the production's music, and Annette Colon for her support with scenery.

Curriculum Connection

The Common Core State Standards require all students in each grade level to engage with exemplar texts, which provide them with experiences that include high-quality, increasingly challenging literary texts.

The Morse School second graders read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, a book identified as an exemplar text by Cambridge Public Schools. This text was chosen because it is complex, of high quality, and allows students to use a variety of skills and strategies while reading. Through the use of this text, students learned to identify a character's problem or challenge, predict a character's actions, infer character traits based on textual evidence, identify how characters change over time, use evidence to support their reasoning, and much more. Students hard work and love for the text inspired us to perform this heartfelt tale of friendship.
