Coady Award Winners: Past And Present

Coady Award Winners: Past And Present
The James Coady Award for extraordinary effort is named in honor of former Morse School Principal James Coady. The award is presented twice per year to selected students in the 3rd, 4th or 5th grade at a recognition dinner sponsored by the Principal and staff of the Morse.

A student chosen for the Coady Award may only receive this recognition once in their elementary school career. Any student in grades three, four or five can be nominated by a staff member, but the grade level team makes the final decision. The selection of the award is not necessarily based on the highest academic record but rather on a specific set of criteria. To receive the Coady Award, students must try their hardest at all times or have made considerable progress in academics. They might have overcome a particular challenge in either school or in their personal life. They must be considerate and kind to others, be a good role model for fellow students, contribute a positive attitude to the school community, listen to directions, and be respectful of peers and adults.

This prestigious award has been given out since the mid-1990’s when Mr. Bill Sage, a long time community member and a strong supporter of the Morse School, was impressed with then Principal Coady’s efforts to recognize students who had made a commitment to their education or worked hard to improve themselves. It was through Mr. Sage’s efforts that the award dinner began and continues to this day, as a way to acknowledge these students publicly.
